Black Boys Code is the largest educational organization dedicated to introducing Black youth (aged 8 to 29) to computer science through exposure workshops, Hackathons, after-school and summer programs.

We devote our resources — our curriculum, services, time, and skills — to equip them with the tools and knowledge they need to fulfill their destiny as leaders and powerful voices of change for their generation.
About the role
We are experiencing explosive growth across Canada. To support this growth, we are in search of a female Chapter Leader to oversee our Black Kids Code (Girls) Chapters. The Chapter leader will also launch and manage the new Chapters.
The Chapter Leader will manage a team of volunteers to execute Black Kids Code (Girls) initiatives and oversees tasks associated with our Technology Exposure Workshops to ensure student interests are addressed in programming, and events and activities are marketed to the community.
This role is vital to cultivating and maintaining strong community relationships to help create and run a sustainable chapter.
What you will be doing
- Leadership: Build and oversee the Black Kids Code Girls GTA Chapter and their core teams and manage the new chapter for girls in the GTA. Onboard and train core team members. Help develop educational material and suggest revisions as required. Liaise with community organizations and leaders through presentations and town halls to disseminate information about the organization with the goal of increasing kids and parents’ participation and enrollment into our programs. Track volunteer statistics and conduct surveys to evaluate Chapter success. Connect with community partners and supporters and identify potential donors. Participate in weekly leadership meetings and meet regularly with the Operations/Program Manager to develop goals and strategies for the chapter. Evaluate workshops and events to ensure activities and services meet organizational objectives.
- Be a Community Connection Catalyst: Immerse yourself in the heart of local communities surrounding the Black Kids Code chapter. For this role, you must be able to commute or have a car or an automobile to go physically to perform community outreach duties. By building strong relationships, you will create widespread awareness of the Black Kids Code and inspire parents and kids to become active participants in our Black Kids Code Girls chapter communities.
- Master the Art of Placement: Utilize your skills to strategically match volunteers with opportunities that align with their interests, skills, and availability. From screening and interviewing to assessing volunteers, you will ensure they are the perfect fit. Collaborate with our Program Managers and Chapter Leaders to identify suitable placements, enabling our volunteers to make a lasting impact.
- Welcome Volunteers with Open Arms: Embrace the exciting task of onboarding our enthusiastic volunteers. Facilitate their seamless integration into our programs by providing comprehensive orientation and identifying their specific training needs. Ensure they are well-versed in our program goals, expectations, and policies. As a welcoming champion and with ongoing support and guidance, you will ensure their successful integration into our community.
- Build Lasting Connections: Forge and nurture positive relationships with our volunteers, Program Managers, and Chapter Leaders. Through open communication, continuous support, and constructive feedback, you’ll guarantee their satisfaction, engagement, and long-term commitment. Promptly addressing concerns and providing effective solutions will be your key to maintaining an inspired team.
- Make an Impact through Data: Prepare regular reports and updates on our volunteers’ achievements and the overall impact of their contributions. By utilizing this valuable data, you’ll evaluate the effectiveness of our placement process and offer recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Empower through Training and Support: Collaborate closely with the Program Managers and Chapter Leaders to identify additional training and support needs for our volunteers. You will provide them with the necessary resources and recommendations.
- Pioneer Program Development: Stay ahead of the game! Continuously explore the latest trends and best practices in volunteer management. By leveraging industry standards and incorporating valuable feedback from our volunteers, you will drive program and process improvements that will further our mission.
Embrace Community Engagement: As a collaborative force, work alongside community partners, stakeholders, and organizations to expand our volunteer opportunities. By enhancing our community engagement efforts, you will help us reach even more young minds and create lasting change
Key Accountabilities
- Raise community awareness of both programs
- Determine volunteers needed for each Exposure Workshop/Event
- Cultivate strong relationships within the community
- Listen to parents and community leaders on community needs
- Plan chapter programs and events for the year (as required)
- Identify workshop and event facilities
Experience and Qualifications
- Must have a technical or computer science degree
- Minimum of 6 years people management and project management skills
- Minimum 4-years of experience in a technology role
- Strong community presence with network of contacts
- Professional oral and written communication skills
- Flexible; adaptable to change; detail-oriented; organized
- MS Office proficient
- You have knowledge of best practices in volunteer management.
- You have the ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
- You possess a passion for working with volunteers or service providers and supporting their engagement in the organization or community program
- You are result driven and outgoing.
- Must pass a Vulnerable Sector background check to work with children
Other things you need to know:
- This position is a 1 year full-time paid contract.
- You will be working in a Hybrid capacity for this position, which means candidates must be currently located in the local chapter area and should be prepared for regular on-site visits to various communities and partner associations.
- Periodic travel to Black Boys Codes sites across Canada throughout the year may be required.
- Evening and weekend work may be required, with a higher frequency during special events or chapter launches.

- Response time and resolution rate to responding to parents’ and volunteers’ enquiries.
- Participation and engagement levels: Number of participants, attendance rates, or level of interaction during community outreach initiatives.
- Partnerships established: Track the number of partnerships formed with schools, organizations, or businesses to promote the initiative.
- Impact assessment: Use surveys, testimonials, success stories, or other methods to evaluate the impact of community outreach activities on the target audience
